Duilio Donzelli, 1882 - 1966
Stroll through the works of Duilio Donzelli...
Duilio Donzelli, an artist of Italian origin, participated in the reconstruction of the Meuse department due to the damage caused by the Great War of 1914-1918. Memorials, religious statues, liturgical furniture, and monumental paintings demonstrating elaborate compositions represent this artist’s oeuvre in the Meuse.
Donzelli paints colourful and animated scenes on major religious themes and sculpts statues and monuments that arouse emotion by means of their realism and attention to detail. With the help of his son Dante, he decorated about forty churches and produced works for about sixty municipalities located in the First World War’s rear front, from the northwest to the southeast.
