This washhouse was built in 1860 at the same time as the new Saint-Jean-Baptiste church. Its source was already located under the old 12th century Romanesque church that had been built above the Saint-Jean fountain (probably by Ursion de Watronville, forty-fifth Bishop of Verdun from 1129 to 1131). It was created to improve the conditions of access to water and to facilitate the task of laundress.
