Length of the route : 6.0 km Town : Saint-Mihiel Path marked out by La Grolle Sammielloise: lagrollesammielloise55@laposte.net A hike for the family from the city center. Varied course, often shaded over a distance of 6 km for a drop of 154 m. After having passed in the Old Town in front of some buildings classified (or registered) historical monuments or the Collegiate St Etienne housing a famous sepulcher of Ligier Richier, you go up on the right in front of the Café des Arcades, formerly Auberge de la Couronne, allowing visitors in the 16th century to spend the night there while awaiting the reopening of the Portes de la Ville in the morning. Leave the old Couvent des Minimes and the old wash house on your left to take the slightly uphill road (old Route de Commercy / Route du Bois d'Ailly). Follow the signs to the right and enjoy the view over the wooded massifs of the Côtes de Meuse. Further on after the paragliding take-off area, you will admire the following viewpoint over the southern valley of the Meuse and its villages. You go around the Fort (access prohibited for security reasons). The fort takes its name from its location on an ancient Roman oppidum. Enjoy the superb view towards the North, the Meuse valley, the city and in the background, those which constitute the coat of arms of St Mihiel, the Roches or Dames de Meuse remains of coral massifs. Good walk. |
