4h

Length of the route : 15.7 km Town : Saint-Mihiel

Path marked out by La Grolle Sammielloise: lagrollesammielloise55@laposte.net This 16 km hike takes you after a short passage through town through the old Town Hall to the exit of the Town. Mostly in the forest, it will delight nature lovers. An uphill path will take you to the entrance to the Promenade des Capucins. This site, originally reserved for the Capuchin monks of the Saint Blaise priory who occupied the site, was listed in 1947. Take the high walk then low walk loop while enjoying the viewpoint on St Mihiel at the belvedere and the magnificent lime trees. You return to the entrance and continue the journey. Shortly after entering the forest, slightly off the course, a marker engraved with a stick. It marks the limit of the Pitancerie forest. The income from the exploitation of this forest allowed the monks to feed themselves (to make a living). The route winds through the forest, in particular by a wide forest path called trench (Capucins trench). Then vestiges of the Great War, several tombstones recall that soldiers were buried there before they were transferred to a military cemetery. After a viewpoint over the village of Senonville, a steep slope will lead you after crossing the D901 towards the Tranchée de Buxieres. Take advantage of the nearby passage to see an artistic vestige of the 1st World War: the Lion monument. After joining the Chemin de Cugnot later, you will dive into a fairly steep valley. At the bottom, a source captured. Then out of the forest, the Fontaine du Rondeau and further on a small chapel, the Virgin of the Meadows, a former place of pilgrimage whose water, it is said, has the virtue of curing eye diseases. The return to the city brings you back to the starting point, not without passing in front of some pretty buildings classified by historical monuments. Good walk.
