Length of the route : 8.5 km Town : Varnéville Path marked out by Les Amis des Côtes Perched circuit, one could almost say mountainous as the contour lines tighten as you approach Mount Ferate. Its shape resembles a double-tailed arrow, projected from the Côtes chain towards the Montsec, it is a link between the massif and the hillock. The structures and trenches that overthrow the forest at every step remind us that this is a strategic site, occupied by the Germans, and controlling all movement in the north as well as in the south. The forest suffered, but it recovered. The orchards occupy the slopes and valleys, taking advantage of the good exposure. |
