Length of the route : 3.9 km Town : Beaulieu-en-Argonne Departure from the Abbey car park: Exit the village, follow the red markings. 1. Turn right towards the Calvary. 2. At the Calvary, possibility of going down the stairs that lead to the remains of the Abbey wall (known as the monks' wall *)> Then, continue on the Corvée path to the left of the Calvary. 3. Arrived on the white path, take the forest road on the left. 4. At the Saint Hubert crossroads (picnic possible here!), Turn left towards Beaulieu-en-Argonne. From the Saint-Popon cross, take the small staircase to the left and then retrace your steps. * The Monks 'Wall: Fortifications are reported from the end of the 13th century, known as the monks' wall bordering the southern flank of the summit. Located between the outbuildings of the abbey and the cross of Saint-Popon, it amplifies the natural escarpment of the relief. Thick at least 3 meters in height. Its external face, the only visible one, is masonry in regular bricks arranged in horizontal beds between vertical freestone stiffeners spaced approximately 3.60 meters apart. |
